Can’t Lose Playing the Blues explores the blues spectrum from stomping Texas shuffles and low down Chicago blues, to Stax-era soul instrumentals. The interplay of the musicians stands out over the course of the record. It is a conversation on blues themes in an atmosphere of camaraderie and experience. Throughout 16 tracks, the record tells a story with purely improvised acoustic blues and studio banter woven throughout giving the listener a glimpse into the mind and heart of Paul’s musicianship.

about

Feffrey Records is proud to release Paul Size’s first record under his own name. Native of Denton, Texas, Paul came to prominence as the lead guitarist for Def American Recording artist The Red Devils. As a Devil he caught the ear of Billy Gibbons of Z.Z. Top, who has named Paul one of the 10 guitarists who “blew my mind.” He toured the world with The Red Devils until moving to New England and joining Johnny Hoy and The Bluefish for many years.

Though Paul has recorded with many artists, Can’t Lose Playing the Blues finds Paul stepping out on his own and displaying his formidable talent as both a lead and rhythm guitarist across a wide spectrum of traditional blues material. The fire and abandon of his guitar playing leaves no question that he is among the greats.

He is supported by Jeff Berg (bass, vocals) and Tim Brown (drums) from the band Night Train, and joined by long time friends and nationally recognized blues talents Hash Brown (guitar, harp, vocals) and Jeremy Berlin (piano.)

Feffrey Records is excited to present Paul’s unique talent to his fervent admirers as well as new audiences who have yet to experience the power and intricacy of Paul’s guitar playing.
